This photo from the late 1940s or early 1950s is one of only a few contemporary photos we have showing the GPMTCP. The two upper arrows point to the capped air intakes, the center arrow points to the approximate location of the end of the remaining pipe. By running the pipes out to the side over a slope, then extending them upwards they were high enough above the ground to be (relativley) safe in a gas attack because gas is heavier than air. The separation reduced the chances of both being damaged by a single shell. The incoming air was then processed through a large filter inside the building. Battery Benson is on the left, Battery Ash on the right behind the intake.
